A PLACE FOR AOTEAROA’S TAMARIKI & RANGATAHI TO SHARE YOUR HOPES AND DREAMS FOR THE NEW DECADE

The ideas of Aotearoa’s tamariki and rangatahi will shape Aotearoa’s future. This year, we have invited all children and young people to participate in Dreams for the Decade. A place to express moemoeā for the decade through poetry, visual art or both, so Aotearoa knows what matters to children and teenagers. Entries for Dreams for the Decade have formally closed this year, and we are in the process of selecting some top entries. If you’d still like to share your dreams for the decade and participate you can still send us entries, but they won’t be included in our judging process. For everyone who has entered already, thanks for your entry, you will be hearing from us again before the end of 2020!

Your dreams matter

YOU’VE EXPRESSED WHAT MATTERS TO you!

And we are listening, hearing and seeing. Thank you to all the amazing tamariki and rangatahi who have entered the first year of Dreams for the Decade. Your entries are incredible and inspiring. The vision of the future for this decade that you have expressed, based on your hopes and dreams, is exciting. We are working with our guest judges, Leilani and Ruby, to select some top entries, and everyone who has participated will be receiving acknowledgement of your participation.

Getting involved

IF YOU STILL WANT TO PARTICIPATE AND SHARE YOUR DREAMS FOR THE DECADE, YOU CAN! JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW – YOUR ENTRY WON’T BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A PRIZE THIS YEAR THOUGH.

Dream.
Think about your hopes and dreams for your life now and the next 10 years.

Focus on what matters to you. It might be your family and whānau, your community, your hobbies, time with friends, the environment, social issues or something else. Imagine what your hopes and dreams for the decade look and feel like, and what you want to see in your future.

Create.
Express your dreams for the decade in a way that works for you.

Choose one option: write a poem, make a piece of visual art, or make something combining art and poetry. Your entry must be original, by you. If you want to express your dreams for the decade  with a group of other children or teenagers, that’s fine too!

Send.
Submit your entry to us.

Email or post us your entry (only one per person or group), remembering to include your name, age and any other information you might want to include about your entry. Otherwise, you can choose to enter via Instagram, by posting your entry on your page and tagging us (@dreamsforthedecade)

You can always contact us: dreams@barnardos.org.nz

Prizes

Our guest judges are choosing a selection of your entries from 2020 (received end of July) to receive some prizes. See what you could be in to win.

Championing tamariki and rangatahi

Barnardos is proud to bring you Dreams for the Decade.

Barnardos is Aotearoa’s national children’s charitable NGO. Our vision is ‘An Aotearoa New Zealand where every child shines bright’. Every day we’re working to support and advocate for tamariki and rangatahi, so you can live to your full potential, and so that families, whānau and our communities are awesome places for you to be. We created Dreams for the Decade so you have a platform to share your hopes and dreams for the new decade with the rest of Aotearoa, because your moemoeā matter.

Some choice opportunities when you participate

We invited every child and teenager in Aotearoa 18 years or younger to participate in Dreams for the Decade – all are welcome! Aotearoa will get to see all the entries when they are included in our Dreams for the Decade publication later in 2020.
We are also finding some ways to share some Dreams for the Decade entries with Aotearoa later this year too. Alongside the prizes on offer, this means there’s lots of choice opportunities for all our partcipants!
